As members of the community, all of us are encouraged to be matured in all aspects, especially spiritually, so that we can be useful in the mission.
“Therefore let us leave behind the basic teaching about Christ and advance to maturity, without laying foundation all over again; repentance from dead works and faith in God” (Heb. 6:1
All Christians are called to maturity. As we became mature, our negative attitudes that can’t help us in serving God should be set aside. Let us examine ourselves, did we mature as a son/daughter? As parents, as spouse, as workers, as members of the community?
“As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love” (Jn. 15:9
To embrace maturity in Christ, we must remain in God’s love. What should we do to remain in the Father’s love? Pray. Confess our sins. Love our brothers and sisters. There are many things we can do to remain in God’s love.
“This is my commandment; love one another as I love you” (Jn. 15:12
Resolve any conflicts.
If you’re harboring the slightest bitterness toward anyone, or any unkind thoughts of any sort, you must get rid of them quickly. They are not hurting anyone but you. It isn’t enough just to do the right things and say the right things – you must also think right things before your life can come into harmony.
Take good care of yourself.
Care enough about yourself to eat right, get enough exercise and rest and not do anything that will cause you harm. Have someone to confide in, laugh with, and explore new things with; someone who is a great listener.
Always have confidence in yourself, your talents, your abilities and your uniqueness. Believe that you are a likeable and desirable person who deserves respect and consideration.
“That you should put away the old self of your former way of life corrupted through deceitful desires, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds and put on the new self, created in God’s way in righteousness and holiness in truth” (Eph. 4:22-24
Maturity comes with a price. We have to leave our old lives behind. We trade in loneliness and guarded hearts for authentic relationships and discover friendships that help us move closer to Christ. We trade in our dreams and ambitions for a mission that is bigger and more beautiful and discover what it means to be truly alive.
If we want to be great, become a servant. If we want to save our lives, give them away. If we want to grow up in God, become a child.
Never stop growing.
Every day is an opportunity to grow. No matter how much you’ve already accomplished, you can still receive a great benefit from new challenges.
The joy of life is in the journey. The fulfillment of life is in growing. Keep that growing going, and never let it stop.
The Lord is calling all of us to move into place of maturity, where we are no longer led by our feelings or senses, but by the Spirit in accordance with the Scriptures.
